Our history
We began, with the grace of God, in April 1975 as a small ecumenical sisterhood in Ann Arbor, MI. Most of the founding sisters had attended the University of Michigan and had come to a deeper conversion to the Lord through involvement in The Word of God community, an ecumenical, charismatic group in Ann Arbor, MI. In 1975 six of us began living together. Our rule of life was patterned on The Servants of the Word, an ecumenical brotherhood founded a few years before us.
In 1983 the Lord made known the name He had for us, the Servants of God’s Love, and spoke to us anew about His desire that we be a sign of His strong, personal love for His people and also a sign of the kind of love He wants His people to have for Him. This is our charism and our mission.
In the early 90's, after years of living as an ecumenical group, we took time to reassess our ecumenical focus--all the Protestant sisters who had joined us were no longer a part of us at that time. After a lengthy time of prayer and discernment we prayerfully came to the decision that we should pursue status as a Catholic religious congregation within the diocese of Lansing, MI
In 1992, our Constitutions were approved by Bishop Carl Mengeling, then bishop of the diocese of Lansing. This was followed by his designating us a Private Association of the Faithful in 1996. On January 14 of 2002, Bishop Mengeling established us as a Public Association of the Faithful with Juridic Personality. In 2010, we became an associate community of the Council of Major Superiors of Religious Communities (CMSWR) and are still in the process of pursuing full diocesan status as a religious congregation.
Our formation program consists of one year postulancy, two year novitiate, and three years in temporary vows before Final Profession.
